Tips for Easing Election Week Stress
It's Election Week and if you are feeling the stress and exhaustion, here's a few tips that might help:
~ Excercise.
Release those endorphins by getting your body moving! Walking, running or jogging, especially outside, can lift your mood in a healthy way and shift your focus from the news to nature.
~ Limit screen time.
As hard as it might be, try to limit the time you are checking social media and/or the television. Being glued to every update isn't going to change the outcome. Try to remind yourself that you'll know the result...eventually, without checking your device every ten minutes.
~ Be kind.
That's all. Let's all just be a little kinder with ourselves and each other.
~ Acknowlege the anxiety.
It's not just you. It's pretty much everyone, everwhere this week, so acknowledge it and give yourself a break. It often helps to recall a time when you felt stressed about an event or outcome in the past and reminding yourself of how you handled it then. Rely on what worked and don't fall into the traps of unhealthy ways of handling stress.
~ Focus on what you can control.
Voting is where your control of an election lives. So...vote if you haven't already. And then, maybe go for a walk.
